What do I need to start?Virtually anyone who is in good health, reasonably fit, and comfortable in the water can earn a PADI Open Water Diver certification. You must be older than the age of 14 to begin the PADI Open Water Diver program. For those of you who are not above the age of 14 and would like to participate in the PADI Open Water Diver Program, then the PADI Jr Open Water Diver program is available to you. If you are between 10 and 14 or have a child between these ages, there is a PADI Junior Open Water Diver program available.
What will I do?Throughout the course, you’ll learn fundamentals of scuba diving, including dive equipment and techniques. You earn this rating by completing five pool dives and knowledge development sessions and by making four open water (ocean or lake) dives. Training SessionsPrior to your first training session you will need to pick up your course materials, fill out and sign some paperwork, read chapter 1 and complete the knowledge review questions at the end of the chapter. At the first class you will watch a video, take a quiz, then hop in the pool for confined water training dives. The remainder of the training sessions will be the same as the first but without the paperwork. When all of your class and confined water training is complete we will meet at a dive site in Connecticut or Rhode Island to complete your open water dives. The open water dives take place over two days. How long will it take?PADI programs are performance based. You proceed as you demonstrate mastery of the course skills. This allows you to work at a pace that is comfortable for you. The course typically takes 5 sessions. I'm in a hurry, can I complete it faster?Yes, if you are willing to put in the time we can arrange a private accelerated class. What else will I need? The Open Water Crew-Pak and some basic equipment. How much does it cost? The Open Water Diver Certification course is $250.00.
